On January 20, near Kachalla Kellori village in Borno State’s Mobbar Local Government Area, ISWAP forces launched a decisive attack, causing JAS fighters to scatter in panic towards Gashigar. Several of the fleeing fighters were captured by ISWAP, while others sought refuge in abandoned villages nearby.

In retaliation, JAS initiated a counterattack on January 21 at Maleri Zoriaya village, located about 2 kilometers southeast of Kachalla Kellori.

This violent escalation underscores the intensifying hostilities between the two factions, driven by a battle for control over territory and key smuggling routes, particularly from Geidam and Diffa (Niger) to the Lake Chad Basin Area (LCRBA).
