Copyright Row: Pasuma Warns Of lawsuit Over Alleged Infringement
According to Ireporter Online, Fuji music star Wasiu Alabi, popularly known as Pasuma, has issued a formal legal notice warning individuals and corporate organisations against the unauthorised use of his intellectual property.
In a notice dated June 5, 2026, and released through his legal representatives, the music icon alleged that several parties had repeatedly infringed on his rights by using his image, likeness, sound recordings, musical compositions, and visual materials without proper authorisation. He noted that the alleged infringers include social media platforms, production companies, and music distribution outfits.
The notice stressed that such actions amount to a breach of Nigeria’s Copyright Act 2022 and constitute unlawful exploitation of creative works. It further explained that the unauthorised uploading, hosting, and distribution of his content across various digital platforms, including streaming services, applications, blogs, gaming platforms, and other online communities, violate his intellectual property rights.
Pasuma demanded an immediate halt to all forms of unauthorised usage of his works. He directed all affected parties to take down previously uploaded materials and permanently stop the distribution, sale, or promotion of any content or products linked to his intellectual property. He also requested that entities operating under valid agreements submit copies of such authorisations to his legal team, while those without permission were instructed to provide a detailed account of all usage of his works.
The notice gave a 14-day compliance window, ending June 19, 2026, warning that failure to comply would result in legal proceedings. He stated that possible legal actions could include injunctions, claims for damages, and potential criminal liability against organisations and their executives.
Pasuma’s legal representatives further emphasised that the notice does not affect any existing rights or remedies available to him under the law, adding that all rights remain fully reserved.
