in Enugu State on Saturday, which resulted in the death of approximately 18 people and injuries to many others.

The explosion occurred on the 9th Mile 82 Division Expressway, Ugwuonyeama section, when a fuel tanker collided with vehicles and erupted into flames, claiming numerous lives.

In a statement released on Sunday by his Special Assistant on Print Affairs, Udora Orizu, Kalu expressed condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the government and people of Enugu State, praying for strength and comfort in the face of this tragedy.

Kalu also noted a similar explosion that occurred recently in Niger State and called on the federal government to prioritize the rehabilitation of roads, including the 9th Mile Expressway, to prevent further incidents.

He emphasized the need for government agencies to implement safety measures and to educate citizens on how to prevent such disasters in the future.

“I am deeply saddened by the news of the tanker explosion in Enugu State on Saturday that resulted in the loss of many lives and injuries. This tragedy occurred just days after a similar explosion in Niger State, where over 80 people lost their lives,” Kalu stated. “I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and urge the federal government to take immediate action to address the poor state of our roads, especially the 9th Mile Expressway, and ensure safety measures are in place to prevent future tragedies.”

The Deputy Speaker also wished those injured a speedy recovery and reaffirmed that the National Assembly will continue to support the federal government in addressing such issues through budgetary allocation and legislative actions.
