Breaking: National Assembly To Finalize 2025 Budget This Week (Date Set)

It was previously noted that both chambers of the National Assembly had postponed their return to allow Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to finalize their budget defenses.

Speaking on Monday in Abuja, Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs Chairman Senator Adeyemi Adaramodu indicated that the budget is likely to be passed this week once lawmakers resume plenary on Tuesday and complete all necessary legislative steps.

He confirmed that the committees would lay their reports before both chambers when they reconvene tomorrow. “Once we meet on the 4th, we’ll be expecting the reports,” he said. “The issues raised in the reports will determine when the budget will be passed.”

Adaramodu added that the Senate will carefully review the budget, line-by-line and clause-by-clause, before seeking the House of Representatives’ concurrence, with final approval to be sent to the presidency for assent.

Asked whether the budget will be passed this week, he said, “We are likely to pass it, but it depends on various factors, like the Appropriation Committee’s report and the thorough debates that will follow.”

On the possibility of the budget figure increasing from the ₦49.7 trillion initially proposed by President Bola Tinubu in December 2024, Adaramodu noted that requests from ministries and agencies would be considered carefully, balancing those requests against the government’s available revenue.

“As we handle the budget, we have to be mindful of the revenue the federal government can generate,” Adaramodu stated.
