Just In: Heavy Security As EFCC Locks Down Trial Venue For Ex-Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello

Ireporteronline reports that armed security personnel barricaded key access points to the court, creating a tense atmosphere for legal practitioners and visitors arriving for the proceedings.
Eyewitnesses told Punch that EFCC operatives, equipped with firearms, deployed sniffer dogs and high-tech security gadgets at the court entrance, sparking murmurs of concern among observers.
“This level of security is unusual for a court trial. We are being subjected to excessive checks,” one lawyer remarked.
Bello, who is facing 19 counts of alleged money laundering, was granted bail in December 2024 by Justice Emeka Nwite in the sum of ₦500 million, with two sureties of equal amount. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
As the trial resumed, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Joseph Daudu led the defense team, while Kemi Pinheiro, SAN, represented the EFCC.
