According to Ireporter Online, the Nigeria Police Force (NGF) has issued a strong warning to media professionals, social media users, and the general public against the circulation of unverified information that could undermine national security operations and ongoing security efforts across the country.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Iniedu Anietie Okokon, gave the caution while emphasising the importance of responsible communication and public cooperation in supporting security agencies. He noted that the sensitive nature of security operations often demands discretion, urging Nigerians to avoid spreading misleading or unconfirmed reports.

Okokon stated that he would “prefer to maintain operational silence rather than disseminate false information,” stressing that security agencies are actively engaged in strategic and tactical operations that are not always visible to the public.

He also criticised the increasing influence of so-called “keyboard warriors” who comment on sensitive security matters without proper understanding of operational realities, warning that such actions could distort public perception and hinder ongoing efforts to combat crime and ensure safety.

According to him, many critics fail to recognise the sacrifices made daily by officers of the Nigeria Police Force in protecting lives and property and maintaining public order across the country.

The police spokesperson further urged journalists, media organisations, and digital content creators to uphold professionalism and contribute positively to national security through fact-based and responsible reporting. He cautioned that media platforms must not be allowed to become tools for spreading subversive or misleading narratives.

He added that the warning became necessary due to the rapid spread of false and unverified information on social media, particularly regarding security-related issues, and reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to safeguarding lives and property. He also advised Nigerians to always verify information before sharing it.
