At a time of rising ethnic and regional tensions across Nigeria, such incidents do not remain local — they reverberate nationally.

But beyond the understandable outrage, what has become even more critical is how leaders respond. And in this regard, Governor Monday Okpebholo’s approach stands out as strategic, proactive, and designed to contain further escalation, particularly the threat of reprisal violence.

Let us examine this systematically.
