Man Accuses New Wife Of Stealing Phones Worth ₦65,000 In Kano

A newly married man, Usman Ali, has dragged his wife, Maryam, before a Sharia Court sitting in Jaba, Kano State, accusing her of stealing three mobile phones valued at roughly ₦65,000.

During the proceedings, Maryam firmly denied the allegations, explaining to the court that she had fled their Abuja home to Kano to escape repeated instances of domestic violence. According to her, she sought refuge with her parents due to the persistent physical abuse from her husband.

In addition to his claims against Maryam, Usman also lodged complaints against three women he identified as his wife’s friends. He alleged that they had negatively influenced Maryam and encouraged her to engage in inappropriate outings.

Presiding over the matter, Judge Ustaz Rabiu Yahaya granted Maryam bail and adjourned the case to July 15 for continuation of the hearing.
