Abure Sends Warning and Welcome: LP Watches Disloyal Members, Offers Second Chance
The leadership of the Labour Party, under National Chairman Julius Abure, has called on party members who have been associating with other political platforms to return to the fold. Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Monday following the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, Abure extended what he described as an olive branch, encouraging estranged members to reconcile and recommit to the Labour Party.
While reaffirming that all Nigerians are entitled to freedom of association, Abure emphasized that both the Nigerian Constitution and the Labour Party’s internal rules do not permit dual party membership. He warned that the party is closely monitoring members whose activities suggest allegiance to other parties and noted that appropriate action would be taken in due course by relevant party organs.
According to Abure, those who have veered off course still have a chance to return, provided they are willing to acknowledge their actions. He assured that reconciliation is possible, stating that the party harbours no intention of isolating or alienating anyone. “We are saying very clearly: our doors are open. Let them sheathe their swords and come back home,” he said.
He further added that forgiveness is on the table for those who return and apologise, noting that the party is more interested in unity and moving forward than in deepening internal divisions. “We believe there is no victor and there is no vanquished,” Abure concluded.
