According to Ireporter Online, Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has approved a N150,000 Christmas bonus for every civil servant in the state. The governor emphasized that the initiative reflects his administration’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the welfare of public workers, despite the state experiencing reduced revenue over the past year.

Governor Nwifuru made the announcement on Sunday during a church service held at the Government House Chapel in Abakaliki. Speaking on the upcoming local government elections, he clarified that he has not endorsed any candidate, assuring a level playing field for all aspirants.

“As far as I am concerned, the will of the people must prevail; the people must choose their representatives without interference from any quarter,” he said. The governor also reiterated that political appointees intending to contest in the elections must resign in accordance with electoral guidelines.

Addressing concerns over the Vincent Agwu Nwankwo Flyover (VANCO), a flagship infrastructure project in the state, Governor Nwifuru dismissed claims of delays. He highlighted the technical challenges of the project, adding that it will transform the state’s landscape upon completion.

“You cannot find any state in Nigeria currently undertaking such a flyover,” he said, stressing that the administration is committed to ensuring Ebonyi is recognized for modern and advanced infrastructure. He further stated that the government’s efforts are aimed at leaving a lasting legacy and positioning the state as a benchmark for good governance.
