Malami Family Rift: Younger Brother Backs APC Governor, Snubs Ex-AGF
According to political observers, a notable split has emerged within the Malami family in Kebbi State, as Almustapha Malami, younger brother of former Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami (SAN), has publicly shifted his support to the incumbent APC Governor, Nasir Idris.
The announcement, made on Monday in Birnin Kebbi, has surprised many analysts given the longstanding political rivalry between the ex-AGF, now aligned with the ADC, and Governor Idris. Almustapha Malami endorsed Governor Idris’ bid for a second term, citing the state’s development as his primary reason.
“Governor Nasir Idris has transformed Birnin Kebbi and elevated the state capital to the level it deserves,” Almustapha Malami stated. “If re-elected in 2027, Kebbi State will experience even greater development and urban growth.” He emphasized that his decision was personal and made independently, despite the political tensions surrounding the family.
The Kebbi State APC Chairman, Alhaji Muhammed Kana Zuru, welcomed Almustapha Malami’s move, describing it as a sign of political maturity and foresight. He assured the defector of full integration into the party’s activities and protection ahead of the 2027 elections.
“The APC remains open to all well-meaning individuals who share our vision. Almustapha Malami will be fully co-opted into party programs and adequately protected,” Kana said.
