The Super Eagles of Nigeria have made a notable impression at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), with one of their stars, Ademola Lookman, earning a spot in the CAF Group Stage Best XI. Head coach Eric Chelle was also recognised as the manager of the team, reflecting Nigeria’s strong performance in Group C.

Under Chelle’s leadership, Nigeria achieved a flawless group-stage record, showcasing a balanced and convincing style of play. Lookman, representing Nigeria in the CAF Best XI, stood out with four direct goal contributions—scoring twice and assisting two more—demonstrating his influence on the pitch.

The full CAF Best XI features Mohamed El Shenawy of Egypt in goal, with Noussair Mazraoui and Abdi as full-backs, while Edmond Tapsoba and Axel Tuanzebe form the central defensive pairing. Midfield responsibilities are shouldered by Carlos Baleba, complemented by Lookman and Morocco’s Brahim Diaz in creative roles. The attacking line includes Sadio Mané on the left, Riyad Mahrez on the right, and Amad Diallo leading the forward line after an impressive showing in the group stage.

Looking ahead, Chelle and the Super Eagles are focused on securing Nigeria’s fourth AFCON title, adding to previous triumphs in 1980, 1994, and 2013. Nigeria will face Mozambique in the round of 16 on Monday, January 5, at 8 p.m.
