A faith-based organisation in Abuja, the Holiness Revival Movement Worldwide, has expelled a newly married woman following unresolved marital tensions that emerged soon after her wedding, sparking public debate over consent, religion, and mental health. According to reports, the church announced the decision during a public service after months of counselling failed to resolve the dispute between the couple.

The couple, identified as Isaac and Oyiza, formalised their union in September 2025 through traditional and court marriage ceremonies. However, sources indicate that the wife soon expressed discomfort with physical intimacy and stated that she did not feel emotionally connected to her husband.

The husband reportedly sought guidance from family members and church leaders in hopes that mediation could restore stability to the marriage. Multiple counselling sessions were conducted at various locations, but no resolution was achieved.

In a video shared online, the church’s international director, Paul Rika, cited spiritual concerns and alleged misconduct as reasons for the expulsion. The pronouncement, which included strongly worded statements, has generated widespread criticism from members of the public and rights advocates, fueling discussions about marital consent and the role of religious institutions in private family matters.
