Ghana Fires Coach Otto Addo Following Germany Loss
The Ghana Football Association has announced the dismissal of Black Stars head coach, Otto Addo, after a series of disappointing results, including a recent friendly defeat to Germany. According to Ireporter Online, the decision comes just 70 days ahead of the FIFA World Cup in North America, sparking concerns over the team’s preparation for the tournament.
Ghana fell 2-1 to Germany in Stuttgart on Monday, with the hosts securing victory through a stoppage-time goal by Deniz Undav. This marked the Black Stars’ fourth consecutive loss, adding pressure on Addo, whose team had suffered a 5-1 defeat to Austria days earlier.
In a statement, the Ghana Football Association expressed gratitude to the 50-year-old coach for his contributions. “The association wishes to thank Otto Addo sincerely for his service and wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavours,” it said, while promising to communicate the team’s new technical direction in due course.
Addo, appointed in March 2024, faced a turbulent tenure, struggling to stabilize the team amid high expectations from fans and football stakeholders. His departure highlights the intense pressure on national team coaches to produce results ahead of major competitions.
Ghana now faces a challenging path at the upcoming World Cup, drawn in a difficult group alongside England, Croatia, and Panama.
