The All Progressives Congress in Lagos has declared that no aspirant has been preselected for any elective position ahead of the 2027 general elections, emphasizing a level playing field for all party members.

According to Ireporter Online, the state chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, made the clarification on Thursday shortly after the party concluded its National Convention, during which new officials were elected across various tiers. He noted that with the convention now concluded, the party’s focus has shifted toward preparations for the selection of candidates who will represent it in the upcoming polls.

Ojelabi stressed that all positions remain open to qualified and interested members, making it clear that no individual will be imposed on the party. He urged aspirants to begin preparations and adhere strictly to the legal and procedural guidelines governing the electoral process.

He further explained that the emergence of candidates would be guided by the timetable set by the Independent National Electoral Commission and in full compliance with the Electoral Act and other relevant regulations.

The chairman disclosed that the party intends to adopt direct primaries as its primary method for selecting candidates, although consensus arrangements may still be considered in situations where all stakeholders willingly agree without coercion.

He also cautioned aspirants that any fees paid for nomination forms or related processes would be non-refundable, regardless of the outcome.

Reassuring members, Ojelabi maintained that the process would be transparent and inclusive, guaranteeing equal opportunities for all participants. He added that the party is keen on encouraging greater female participation, noting that women aspirants with strong grassroots support would receive the necessary backing.

He concluded by urging party members to remain patient, peaceful, and orderly as they await official directives from the national leadership regarding the next phase of the process.
