According to Ireporter Online, President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians to remain hopeful amid rising fuel prices, noting that the current economic hardship is not unique to the country. Speaking during a project inauguration in Bayelsa State, the President compared Nigeria’s situation with that of other African nations, including Kenya, stressing that Nigerians are relatively better off. He acknowledged the burden of increased fuel costs but assured citizens that his administration is committed to easing the challenges, adding that ongoing reforms would eventually yield positive results.
In a separate development, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has postponed its planned nationwide voter revalidation exercise until after the 2027 general elections. The decision, reached after a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners, was confirmed in an official statement signed by National Commissioner Mohammed Kudu Haruna, who emphasized that the exercise remains critical to maintaining an accurate and credible voter register.
Meanwhile, former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has expressed concerns over the role of American troops in Nigeria’s fight against insurgency. He argued that their presence has not improved security, but instead emboldened террорист groups such as Boko Haram, raising questions about the effectiveness of foreign intervention in counter-terrorism operations.
Political tensions also intensified as former presidential aide Laolu Akande criticized Atiku Abubakar for accusing the Tinubu administration of attempting to establish a one-party state. Akande argued that Atiku contributed to internal divisions within the Peoples Democratic Party, adding that both leaders share similar political ideologies.
Further reactions emerged from presidential aide Daniel Bwala, who dismissed the prospects of the African Democratic Congress forming a strong coalition. He cited internal conflicts, lack of ideological direction, and leadership struggles as key factors undermining the party’s ability to function as a credible opposition.
In Kano State, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf declared himself the leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, insisting that former national chairman Abdullahi Ganduje cannot dictate to him. He defended his recent defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party, attributing his decision to internal crises and maintaining that his move helped prevent a larger political fallout.
INEC also dismissed reports linking its Chairman, Joash Amupitan, to a controversial social media post celebrating an APC victory. The commission described the claim as fabricated, clarifying that the chairman does not operate any personal account on the platform and warning against attempts to undermine the institution’s neutrality.
In the entertainment sector, Nigerian singer 9ice called for a return to cultural values as a pathway to national development. Speaking at a listening event in Lagos, he argued that despite strong religious devotion, Nigeria has not experienced corresponding progress, urging greater focus on productivity and indigenous systems.
Also addressing public speculation, Nollywood actor Tobi Makinde dismissed rumours of a feud with filmmaker Funke Akindele, stating that their relationship remains intact. He explained that perceived distance between individuals can often result from personal growth rather than conflict.
In sports, former England striker Alan Shearer has shared his predictions ahead of the return of the Premier League season, tipping key victories for top clubs including Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City as the title race intensifies.
