Ways To End Begging In The North – Ganduje To Governors
According to Ireporter Online, the immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, has called on northern governors to prioritise investment in technological tools, particularly to support persons with special needs.
He emphasised that access to modern technological gadgets significantly enhances learning for individuals with disabilities, making education more inclusive and effective. Ganduje made the remarks on Friday during an event focused on disability education, where he urged leaders across Northern Nigeria to adopt strategic investments in people living with disabilities as a way to curb the growing trend of street begging in the region.
The event attracted a wide range of stakeholders, including experts in special education, government officials at both federal and state levels, as well as staff, students, and alumni of Tudun Maliki Special School in Kano. A keynote address delivered by the school’s vice principal highlighted the transformative impact of the Let’s Talk Humanity Initiative.
Ganduje noted that sustained investment in human capital, especially among vulnerable groups, could lead to meaningful societal transformation. He pointed out that many individuals with physical challenges often face neglect, which affects their confidence and sense of belonging. However, he stressed that targeted programmes and inclusive policies can help restore their dignity and unlock their potential.
He further urged authorities and development partners to embrace initiatives that empower persons with disabilities, noting that with the right support, they can become self-reliant, contribute meaningfully to society, and even create employment opportunities. He expressed optimism that such efforts could nurture exceptional talents and reduce dependence on street begging.
