I Only Wanted To Help” — Man Regrets Confronting 19-Year-Old Over Body Odour

According to Ireporter Online, a Lagos resident has recounted an uncomfortable encounter involving her neighbour’s 19-year-old daughter, after what began as a well-meaning attempt to address a personal hygiene concern ended in tension between both parties.

The woman explained that the teenager, who had visited her home on several occasions, was often noticed to have a strong body odour, a situation that left her increasingly concerned about possible social embarrassment for the young lady. Out of what she described as concern for her wellbeing, she eventually decided to speak to her about personal hygiene practices.

She stated that she cautiously raised the issue during a visit, asking if the teenager was familiar with the use of roll-on or antiperspirants, products commonly used to manage body odour. According to her, the young girl responded that she had never used or heard of such products, a reaction she found surprising given her modern appearance.

In an effort to be more helpful, the neighbour said she further explained the importance of underarm hygiene and even offered her an antiperspirant. However, the conversation reportedly did not go well, as the teenager appeared hurt by the remarks and left shortly after.

The woman added that she told the girl directly that she had noticeable body odour, a statement that appeared to deepen the discomfort. Since the incident, she claimed the teenager has avoided her completely and no longer greets her as she previously did.

The situation has since sparked broader conversations online about the sensitivity required when addressing personal hygiene issues, with many noting the thin line between concern and unintended offence in such private matters.
