Dabiri-Erewa Celebrates Anosike’s Historic NBL China Clean Sweep Victory

The Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has extended congratulations to Nigerian-American basketball star Ejimofor Anosike following his emergence as the Finals Most Valuable Player in the 2026 season of China’s National Basketball League.

According to Ireporter Online, the commendation was conveyed in a statement released in Abuja on April 25 by NiDCOM’s spokesperson, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, who described Anosike’s accomplishment as historic. The NiDCOM boss noted that the athlete has become the first player in the league’s history to secure all major individual honours in a single sweep.

Anosike’s achievements include leading his team to the 2026 NBL championship, clinching the 2026 Finals MVP award, emerging as the regular season scoring leader in 2024, earning the Best International Player title in 2025, and receiving back-to-back All-Star selections in 2025 and 2026. He also claimed victory in the 2026 All-Star Slam Dunk contest, further cementing his dominance.

Dabiri-Erewa praised the player’s discipline, consistency, and dedication, stating that his success reflects the resilience and excellence Nigerians continue to demonstrate on the global stage. She remarked that his journey underscores the value of hard work, focus, and determination, adding that his record-breaking feats have brought pride to the nation while setting a new benchmark in international basketball.

She further encouraged young Nigerians, particularly aspiring athletes, to draw inspiration from Anosike’s achievements and remain committed to their goals.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, also felicitated Anosike on his remarkable performance in China, with the message conveyed through his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
