Jigawa NNPP Leader, Ringim Dumps Party, Joins ADC In Surprise Defection Move

The leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Jigawa State, Aminu Ibrahim Ringim, has officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the move as part of efforts to build a stronger opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to Ireporter Online, Ringim announced his defection on Saturday, April 25, 2026, during a formal registration exercise with the ADC in Ringim Local Government Area, an event that attracted a large crowd of supporters and political associates.

Speaking at the gathering, the former NNPP chieftain said his decision was informed by the need to collaborate with other political actors to confront Nigeria’s worsening economic and security challenges. He listed insecurity, inflation, hunger, and unemployment as major issues affecting citizens, insisting that only a united opposition could effectively challenge the current situation and “rescue” the country.

Ringim urged his supporters across Jigawa State to align with the ADC, stressing that a strong political coalition would be necessary to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027. He dismissed speculations that the ADC coalition would collapse after its primaries, describing such claims as unfounded and similar to earlier doubts about opposition unity in the country.

He further emphasized that opposition leaders and supporters were committed to remaining united and supporting whoever emerges as the party’s candidate after the primaries, adding that their focus was the development of Jigawa State and Nigeria as a whole.

Ringim also claimed that the ADC had recorded significant membership growth nationwide, stating that over 15 million Nigerians had already registered with the party, while efforts were ongoing to attract an additional 30 million members ahead of the 2027 elections.

A former governorship candidate in Jigawa State under the NNPP in both 2015 and 2023, Ringim has remained a notable figure in the state’s opposition politics.
