Governor Yusuf Clears Air On ‘Underwear Empowerment’ Claim In Kano, Sets Record Straight
According to Ireporter Online, the Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, has distanced himself from a controversial incident involving the display of red underwear by a group of young women during a rally held in honour of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu. The incident, which reportedly went viral over the weekend, was initially linked to an alleged government-backed empowerment initiative.
Governor Yusuf, speaking during a special prayer session at the Government House in Kano, stated that he had no prior knowledge of the activity and did not approve it in any form. He clarified that the event in question was carried out without his consent, stressing that the government was not involved in the organisation or endorsement of such a display.
The Governor further condemned the public display of underwear during the programme, describing it as contrary to the cultural and religious values upheld by the people of Kano State. He reiterated that such actions are unacceptable and do not reflect the principles of his administration.
“You have heard what happened. We were going about our normal activities when I was informed that some young women displayed inappropriate items. I was not aware of it,” he said.
He added that, “Such actions are against our culture and the teachings of Islam, and we strongly condemn them.”
