Lagos Assembly Drops Onafeko, Brings In New Clerk
The Lagos State House of Assembly has announced the removal of its Clerk, Olalekan Onafeko, marking the end of his tenure which began on January 14, 2022.
According to Ireporter Online, the decision was disclosed during plenary by the Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, who stated that the development followed the completion of Onafeko’s term in line with established legislative service guidelines. He noted that the transition was necessary to ensure continuity and the smooth functioning of the Assembly’s operations.
Following the announcement, Obasa confirmed the appointment of Adenike Osinowo as the new Clerk of the House. In her new role, she is expected to oversee legislative documentation, provide procedural guidance to lawmakers, and manage the administrative affairs of the Assembly.
In a related development, lawmakers approved the appointment of Latifat Ogbara as Chairman of the Lagos State House of Assembly Service Commission, the body responsible for staff discipline and welfare. The House also confirmed Remi Bello as a member of the commission, with both appointments aimed at strengthening institutional efficiency and workforce management.
Meanwhile, fresh political indications suggest that Obasa may be redirecting his ambitions ahead of the 2027 general elections. According to Ireporter Online, the Speaker is now considering a bid for the House of Representatives seat representing Agege Federal Constituency, after previously being linked to a potential governorship aspiration. His renewed political consultations are reportedly being driven through the Mandate Group, a legacy political network associated with Bola Tinubu.
