Wadada: Senate Appoints Dankwambo As PAC Chairman
According to Ireporter Online, the Nigerian Senate has appointed Senator Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, representing Gombe North under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the new Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC). He replaces Senator Aliyu Ahmed Wadada following his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The decision was confirmed during plenary and aligns with the Senate’s longstanding practice of assigning the leadership of the Public Accounts Committee to a member of the opposition party.
In a statement issued by the Senate through his spokesperson, Malam Farouk Yarma, the appointment was described as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen legislative oversight and enhance accountability in the management of public resources. The statement emphasised that the committee remains central to reviewing government expenditures and audit findings.
Dankwambo, a former Governor of Gombe State and former Accountant-General of the Federation, is widely recognised for his expertise in public finance and governance. His background in taxation, forensic accounting, and financial administration is expected to bolster the committee’s performance in carrying out its mandate.
Before his new assignment, he chaired the Senate Committee on Drugs and Narcotics. His elevation to the PAC leadership was described as a strategic move aimed at reinforcing accountability frameworks within the National Assembly.
The statement further noted that the Senate remains committed to transparency, fiscal discipline, and responsible governance through its committee system, adding that such leadership adjustments are essential to sustaining public confidence in democratic institutions.
