Kwara Police Deny Allegations Of Unlawful Detention Of 16-Year-Old Over Theft Case
According to Ireporter Online, the Kwara State Police Command has dismissed allegations that it unlawfully detained a 16-year-old girl in Arandun community, Irepodun Local Government Area, following public backlash triggered by viral videos showing the minor at a police station. The command described the claims as misleading and capable of distorting public understanding of the incident, insisting that due process was fully observed in handling the case.
The police explained that the matter stemmed from a reported case of housebreaking and theft recorded at the Arandun Police Division on April 30, 2026, in which a 19-year-old suspect identified as Timothy Aransiola allegedly fled after being placed on a watchlist. Investigations reportedly indicated that the minor, identified as his sister, was suspected of aiding his evasion. She was subsequently invited on May 1, 2026, cautioned, and her statement obtained in line with established procedures before she was released to her guardian on bond. The command maintained that she was not unlawfully detained and urged the public to disregard misleading narratives circulating online, while reaffirming efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspect and commitment to due process and transparency.
