Hearn Praises Anthony Joshua’s “Ultimate Comeback” Ahead Of July Return
Promoter Eddie Hearn has lauded former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua as he prepares for his return to the ring in July, describing the comeback as the most defining moment of his career following a turbulent period marked by personal tragedy and physical recovery.
According to Ireporter Online, Joshua is scheduled to face Kristian Prenga on July 25 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, before a highly anticipated potential showdown with Tyson Fury later in the year.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Sport, Hearn said Joshua’s return goes beyond a typical comeback, stressing the depth of adversity the boxer has overcome. He noted that while some may view the return as routine given the short break since his last fight, it represents a far more significant journey back from physical, emotional, and mental challenges.
Hearn highlighted the severity of the circumstances Joshua endured, stating that the injuries sustained in the crash were so serious that many would have been unable to return to professional boxing. He commended Joshua’s resilience and determination, describing his recovery and readiness to fight again as remarkable.
Kristian Prenga, Joshua’s upcoming opponent, brings a strong professional record and an extended unbeaten run spanning nearly a decade, setting the stage for a competitive encounter in Riyadh.
Joshua’s last bout took place in December, where he secured a sixth-round stoppage victory over Jake Paul in Miami, rebounding from his IBF title defeat to Daniel Dubois in September 2024.
The July fight is widely viewed as a preparatory step toward a potential all-British blockbuster against Tyson Fury, a matchup that has long been demanded by boxing fans.
Hearn emphasized the importance of the interim bout, explaining that it is necessary to ensure Joshua is fully prepared both physically and mentally for a fight of such magnitude. He expressed confidence that an optimal Joshua, properly prepared and in peak condition, would be capable of defeating Fury in a future showdown.
