Ex-Lagos CP, Owoseni, Steps Down From Accord Governorship Primary In Oyo State

According to Ireporter Online, a former Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, has withdrawn from the Accord Party governorship primary election in Oyo State, citing alleged manipulation of the party structure and rising internal violence as key reasons for his decision.

Owoseni, who previously served as Security Adviser to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, announced his withdrawal in a statement shared via his X handle on Tuesday. He said recent developments within the party had made it difficult for his governorship ambition to be pursued on the Accord platform.

In his statement, Owoseni expressed concern over the prevailing situation in the state, noting that his thoughts were with victims of the recent terrorist attack in Ogbomoso and their families. He described the incident as tragic, adding that those affected deserved support and justice.

He further stressed that security challenges in Oyo State should remain the central focus of public discourse, insisting that addressing insecurity was more important than political contestations at this time.

Explaining his decision, the former police commissioner alleged that certain internal developments within the Accord Party suggested a coordinated effort to frustrate his aspiration. He claimed there were signs of manipulation of the party structure at the state level, allegedly influenced by individuals seeking to maintain political control.

Owoseni also alleged that thuggery and violence were being introduced as tools to destabilise the party and disrupt the electoral process. He said these factors left him with no option but to withdraw from the governorship race under the party.

Despite his withdrawal, Owoseni maintained that his commitment to the development and progress of Oyo State remained unchanged, thanking his supporters for their loyalty and understanding.
