Presidency Reacts To Rumours Of Tinubu Converting To Christianity

The Presidency has dismissed a viral video circulating on social media claiming that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has converted from Islam to Christianity.

According to Ireporter Online, the 8-minute clip, which was shared on X by the Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Segun Dada, alleged that Tinubu had embraced Christianity during a church gathering, sparking widespread reactions online.

However, the Presidency swiftly debunked the claim, describing the video as false and misleading. Presidential aide Segun Dada clarified that President Tinubu has not changed his religion, stressing that he remains a practising Muslim.

Dada further noted that the President has consistently maintained religious tolerance and continues to support his wife, who is a pastor, describing their household as an example of interfaith harmony.

He stated that this spirit of unity within the President’s family reflects the broader national leadership style of inclusiveness rather than religious conversion.

In a related development, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised the Tinubu-led administration over its handling of economic and security challenges in the country.

Atiku, in a statement issued through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, faulted recent remarks by the Presidency comparing Nigeria’s debt levels with those of other African nations.

He argued that such comparisons demonstrate a disconnect between government officials and the harsh realities facing ordinary Nigerians, noting that issues such as insecurity and rising economic hardship have made ransom payments a frequent burden for many households.

Atiku maintained that the focus of government should be on addressing citizens’ welfare rather than highlighting favourable debt statistics amid worsening national conditions.
