According to Ireporter Online, the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, has stated that terrorism levels across Nigeria have significantly declined, estimating the country’s security performance at between 65 and 70 per cent.

Musa made the remark on Friday during an interview on Arise Television, noting that no country in the world is completely free from crime and criminal activity.

He suggested that some of the criminal acts recorded in parts of the country may be politically driven, aimed at weakening public confidence in the government or creating the impression that Nigeria is ungovernable.

The Defence Minister also linked rising insecurity to the erosion of family values and weak social orientation, stressing that many individuals involved in kidnapping and related crimes were driven by a desire for quick wealth rather than legitimate hard work.

He further explained that in several cases, victims are targeted in ways that raise questions about the practicality of ransom demands, hinting that such incidents may sometimes be used for sabotage or political messaging.

Musa emphasized that despite the challenges, the Armed Forces and other security agencies continue to intensify operations across the country to combat insecurity and protect citizens.

He also expressed appreciation for increased public cooperation, noting that support from Nigerians has improved significantly and is contributing to ongoing security gains.
