Peter Okoye Claps Back At Fan Calling For His Retirement Over Age

Singer Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has responded to criticism from a social media user who suggested that he should retire from music because of his age, insisting that his solo career remains stronger than ever.

According to reports, the debate began after an X user identified as @OloriOfOloris shared a clip from one of the singer’s music videos and argued that the 44-year-old artiste should step away from Afrobeats, claiming that it was time for him to retire.

The comment sparked reactions online, with media personality Do2dtun defending Mr P and describing the remark as ageist. He pointed out that internationally acclaimed musicians such as Celine Dion, Shakira, Beyoncé and members of the Backstreet Boys continue to perform despite being older, questioning why the Nigerian singer should be judged differently.

Joining the conversation, Mr P dismissed the criticism, describing those calling for his retirement as disappointed supporters of the now-defunct P-Square group. He accused critics of applying double standards by celebrating global stars like Usher, Beyoncé and Chris Brown while suggesting that he should end his career.

The singer further highlighted his versatility, stating that he remains one of the few performers who combine singing, dancing, live stage performances and the ability to play multiple musical instruments, while also possessing formal music certification.

Mr P maintained that embarking on a solo career ranks among the best decisions he has made, stressing that public opinion would not influence his journey in the music industry.

He also revealed that he recently secured a multi-million-dollar international distribution agreement spanning five years and covering three albums, describing the deal as proof that his career continues to grow.

Expressing confidence in his future, the singer declared that no one could halt his progress and reaffirmed his commitment to his solo brand, insisting that the movement had already gathered unstoppable momentum.

P-Square, the iconic music duo made up of Peter and his twin brother Paul Okoye, officially parted ways in 2017 following years of internal disagreements, with both artistes pursuing independent music careers since then.
