BREAKING: Police Debunk Terrorist Attack Reports At Asaba Airport
The Airport Command of the Nigeria Police Force has dismissed reports of a terrorist attack or security breach at the Asaba International Airport, Delta State.
According to reports, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Airport Police Command, Ikeja, ASP Mohammed Adeola, explained in a statement on Monday that the security activities witnessed at the airport were part of a planned simulation exercise.
Adeola said the exercise was conducted by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) on Thursday, September 10, 2026, as part of efforts to assess and strengthen the preparedness of security and emergency-response agencies.
According to the police, the exercise was designed to evaluate inter-agency coordination and the ability of relevant agencies to respond effectively to potential security emergencies.
Security personnel and other stakeholders were deployed during the exercise to recreate a simulated security incident within the airport environment.
The command said the exercise was intended to test existing response mechanisms, communication channels, command and control structures, as well as the overall readiness of participating agencies to handle security emergencies.
The police stressed that the exercise was a controlled and authorised operation and should not be mistaken for an actual terrorist attack or invasion of the airport.
The command consequently urged travellers, airport users and members of the public to disregard reports circulating on social media and other platforms suggesting that the airport had come under attack.
It also cautioned members of the public against sharing unverified information capable of creating unnecessary fear and panic.
The Airport Police Command assured the public that the security situation at the airport remained under control, adding that relevant security agencies were maintaining vigilance and remained committed to protecting passengers, airport personnel, facilities and other stakeholders.
