Obaseki’s Movement To LP Imminent As PDP Honors Dan Orbih’s List Matters Arising By Osigwe Omo-Ikirodah

Making hay while the sun shines is an old English proverb that simply means taking advantage of the time available to finish a task.

The new electoral act has made it necessary for everyone to keep an eye on his or her back in order to avoid stories that touch.

The Edo State PDP dilemma is gradually drawing to a close, as the PDP’s National Working Committee has finally approved and transmitted the names of the PDP legacy members to INEC as the authentic list of PDP candidates in Edo State, putting an end to tension in high places and unnecessary High Blood Pressure.

The repercussions of this are that all of the House of Assembly members, Representatives, and Senatorial candidates running on Godwin Obaseki’s platform have found themselves in a precarious position, potentially ending their political careers.

Outstanding figures like the current senators from Edo North, Sen. Francis Alimekhena, Sen. Matthew Uroghide of Edo South , and Sen. Clifford Odia, who represents Edo Central all fall into this category, look at the amiable Matthew Iduoriyekemwen? and so many others what happens to their political career after now?

Before delving into the implications of Dan Orbih’s victory over Obaseki, let me state categorically that the Edo man is an average proud man full of ego according to dem, ANOTHER PERSON NO DEY REIGN FOREVER, what this means is that the average Edo Man has a small bout of jealousy in him that does not allow him to stomach his colleague being on top for too long.

The Edo man has a short life span of popularity, Obaseki , Adams Oshiomhole , Chief Tony Anenih etc at a time had an overrated popularity depending on the exigencies, it takes a thin line for the Edo man to translate his love for a politician to hate and vice versa.

Let me elaborate on this without grating on the nerves of those mentioned. HE Former Edo State Governor Lucky Igbinedion is the son of the legendary Chief Osawaru Igbinedion. His popularity has dropped since he left government, and his father’s popularity is not as great as it was before Lucky became Governor.

Many Nigerians assumed Esama was the country’s richest person when we were growing up because of his fame and compassion.

The late Chief Tony Anenih was once the deciding factor in Nigerian political events, but his popularity was challenged and defeated.

To date, Adams Oshiomhole is the only governor in Nigeria to have nearly won every unit and every local government in his reelection campaign. After four years, Oshiomhole was branded as the bad guy and replaced by Obaseki.

Obaseki is in the news now not because of anything particularly noteworthy he has accomplished, but more because he is still living in the GRACE period of the Edo man’s ego. They would turn around and pretend he was never there when they had had enough of him. Due to the fact that no one knew Obaseki before he was elected state governor, his predicament might be more problematic than others.

I know my people, popularity in my State is always overrated. Edo man no really send anybody for long their own dey their body. Na small thing dey vex Edo man make he cut rope FINISH.

Matters Arising:

With the party now following the court rulings and accepting Dan Orbih’s list, Obaseki should act quickly to gain grounds.

He should carry along all stakeholders and pursue sincere reconciliation with the PDP in the State. Let me also mention Obaseki and his numerous conflicts at this time. Obaseki might just be a victim of the electoral law and not truly a victim of his plans as they also succeeded in this case, but the LAW fired him.

This is how Obaseki operates, and it has always hurt his opponents. Obaseki is a game player who seeks the simple majority by winning the HEAD.
When he was in the APC, he won the trust of the State Chairman, Anselm Ojezua, and was less concerned with the rest of the executives.

When he defected to PDP he did same by securing the backing of Dr Tony Aziegbemi and forgot about the rest executives. Obaseki’s strategy always worked for him, even when he left the APC he refused to join the PDP from his ward but instead joined from Abuja and Rivers State.

This method appears to be more cost efficient than bringing the entire executive team along. Obaseki performed his role so well that the NWC submitted his list, but he underestimated the INEC and was fired. It is strictly Karma and God’s favor at work that Obaseki lost this war.

Here, I must give full thanks to Chief Dan Orbih and Hon Ogbeide-Ihama, whose efforts for the PDP, which they held together for 12 years, paid off, and it was as if God was saying, “Do not put my people to shame,” because otherwise, Obaseki has had his way already.

Therefore, if Obaseki were to heed my advice—which I believe is sound—he should meet with each candidate individually and make amends. Everyone would be eager to collaborate with the governor, regardless of their past experiences.

Kwara State serves as a case study; the party led by the incumbent experienced difficulties with APC stakeholders, but these issues were successfully resolved, and the Governor now appears to have a healthy relationship with his party.

If Obaseki refuses to go that route, he should openly defect to the Labour Party to fully promote the second team he established there.

Obaseki should seize the moment, as playing the Ostrich while remaining in the PDP and financing the LP will spell disaster for him; Nigerians are tired of two-faced people. If Obaseki leaves, he will be in excellent standing with the LP, which appears to be the rave of the moment in Edo State thanks to Peter Obi.

Edo State is pro-labor because of its high level of independence. Obaseki might get the simple majority he needs in the House of Assembly and maybe avoid lengthy impeachment proceedings if he defected to the Labor Party.

He must be seen promoting the Labour Party to the fullest if not the candidates would have difficulty promoting themselves if Obaseki decides to stay in the PDP and act as the spoiler he would lose his foot soldiers in Labour party and this why. Edo people no like AGADA PEOPLE ( that is putting one leg here and there is a taboo)

This is where the game becomes tricky, the presidential elections will be held first, followed by all other elections, and if the APC or PDP wins the presidency, all other elections will be considered to favor the party that won the presidential elections. The Labour Party might then start to crumble as the bandwagon effect unavoidably sets in.
