Royal Rumble : “: The Untold Reality About The “Old Peoples Congress” Loss In Osun, Matters Arising By Osigwe Omo-Ikirodah

The Royal Rumble match is modelled after the classic battle royal, in which a group of wrestlers attempt to eliminate their opponents by tossing them over the top rope with both feet touching the floor.

In the WWE series, the Royal Rumble is never overlooked because a winner can emerge unexpectedly without any single reference to his previous ring performances.
The Royal Rumble is always full of surprises; an underdog may emerge as WWE heavyweight champion despite never having held a single championship belt in his or her career.

While others use their MIGHT to bully and beat everyone in the ring, that little engine could just tumble the DON over the ropes and we’d say case closed.

And, regardless of how loudly the DON cries outside the ring, he will never be allowed back in. Today, I’d start a series of soul-searching sessions with the major Presidential candidates, with the goal of informing each of them and their political camps of the harsh reality that they’d normally prefer not to hear.

Pikin wey dey find party rice no suppose dey fear to dance. In the coming months, an intense propaganda war laced with facts and lies would be at the forefront of promoting or demarketing a candidate.

The governorship elections in Osun State have been won and lost, with Adeleke of the PDP defeating sitting Governor Oyetola of the APC. The simple implication of a sitting Governor losing a reelection bid is that he is unpopular with his constituents. The second implication is that our votes now have weight. These are the only two takeaways from the defeat.

Before I continue, let me describe the age and voter registration percentage breakdown of the electorate.

18-34 year olds account for 39.7 percent of registered voters, 35-49 year olds account for 32.5 percent, 50-69 year olds account for 18.2 percent, and 70 and older account for the remaining 8.51 percent of voters.

Additionally, statistics show that only about 34% of registered voters actually cast ballots in the most recent elections. Now the youths alone account for 39.7 % of the votes while the middle age account for 32.5% which amounts to a whooping 72.2% of the registered voters.

Matters arising:

Moving forward, the three major players in the race—the APC, PDP, and Labour Party,LP—would be the focus of our analysis.

The All Progressives Congress, APC.

For the purposes of this article, I will refer to the APC as the Old Peoples Congress, OPC, because of the old SKOOL methods applied in running their campaigns. The main electoral battle will take place in the coming months, when propaganda and narratives will dominate the entire space.

If I may ask the All Progressives Congress an honest question, what would they do if the over 73 percent of Nigerians who are disillusioned with the way Nigeria is governed and refuse to vote for one reason or another all turn out to vote their preferred candidate in the coming election ?

Perhaps they will bind their hands and legs to prevent them from voting; the APC, in all honesty, is running its campaign on goodwill for the Jagaban, which may prove counter-productive; we know what we mean when we say the next few months will define the elections.

What, what? Say what, say what, anything can happen… Say what , Say what ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN.

Once the APC which unfortunately seems to be running its campaign on goodwill based on past glory gets to realize that all it takes to topple them is to convince the undecided voters to turn out in their numbers and vote then the better the party would sit up to modern trends of campaigns and battle for their survival.

It’s not a guarantee that a lion won’t eat you just because you won’t the Lion. I am adamant that demarketing will be the key to winning the war ahead.

Take Lagos state, for instance, which is supposed to be the APC’s presidential candidate’s stronghold; with over 8 million registered voters, the major parties will be in trouble if only 6 million people turn out to vote, as opposed to the usual 1 million voters in previous elections. Lagos state alone can make a difference in the upcoming elections.

The APC cannot run its campaign on past glory and expect to win this Royal Rumble. Let us return to the Osun elections. Did you know that Oyetola was more popular four years ago when he ran for Governor for the first time than he is now? Oyetola won in a runoff the last time, but he was clearly defeated on Saturday , which was quite shameful for a sitting governor. And you say all is well?

When the people realize that all they need to do is vote, the difference will be enormous. Please keep in mind that my analysis is based solely on registered voters, not prospective voters.

For the APC enough has been said , they should stop acting like the ancestors they accused them of  and blend with the current trend. The structure is the people, and with the INEC Royal Rumble settings ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN.

Let me drop this verse for the APC.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP

Prior to the Osun elections, the presidential race was fought between the APC and the Labour Party; unfortunately, the PDP was absent. Actually, since the nomination of Okowa of Delta State as Atiku’s running mate the PDP went dead, Adeleke’s victory has funny enough repositioned the party as a force.

Then there are the allegations by Babachir Lawal that over 192 lawmakers are planning to defect from the APC, implying that the PDP may be the biggest beneficiary of the defection.

Almost all of the loopholes mentioned above in relation to the APC also apply to the PDP; they would be the most affected if electorates were forced to vote.

“The same snake wey bite the APC na take the same tail  flog PDP”, the PDP would need to refine its strategies to contemporary times , the Royal Rumble takes no cognizance of how many battles you have won or lost, experience matters but like earlier stated for the APC “no be who first pull shirt dey win fight.”

The Labour Party.

The Labour Party is a blessed party because Nigerians are suddenly seeing an alternative, and based on the statistics mentioned above, it is realistic that the changes can be achieved.

However, Peter Obi supporters are extremely toxic when it comes to engagement, which may lead to them being labeled as BIGOTS by some Nigerians. Peter Obi’s fans should urgently stop assuming that all Nigerians think like them; it is their responsibility to make Nigerians accept them.

The harsh reality that the APC and PDP refuse to accept is that in previous elections, over 70% of those who did not vote were dissatisfied with the dominant parties, which is the root of the apathy. And the good news for them is that the 30 % that turn out to vote are political party affiliated.

Through the internet, it is now possible to quickly communicate with millions of Nigerians living in remote locations like mountains and creeks. The LP should take note of the current failures of the PDP and APC and launch a vigorous campaign that would encourage voters to turn out; all that is required of them is that they simply vote.

If more than 60 million registered voters who do not vote in presidential elections turn out to vote, it is obvious that things will change.

The undecided voters out there are your votes, if only the regulars come out to vote  Peter Obi would not win even one state, Your voters are disillusioned Nigerians looking for an alternative. There is a pool of over 70 million votes to choose from, new voters eager to change the narrative.

Get professionals to start the work; Obama, as a black minority, raised the most funds ever in a US presidential election; the prospects are good, and the outcome will be worthwhile.

Reach out to people who are discouraged and attempt to talk to the people about hope. Write letters, persuade people to come out, and start poaching instead of bragging.

Dem say tree near tree na make monkey smart, the truth is that Nigerians are ready to teach the ruling class a lesson if they can get the right ginger, pay super stars to endorse your struggle, organize concerts, and get that 70 million voters to turn out and vote.
