Edo: Hon Asuen Joins Protesters To Draw Government’s Attention To Deplorable State Of Sapele Road(Video)
BENIN; August 2nd, 2022
It’s day two(2) of the ongoing peaceful protest going on at the SAPELE ROAD axis of the Benin Metropolis in which Residents, Road Users, Vehicle Owners and Commuters took to the Road to protest the lingering deplorable nature of the Road and the untold hardship they experience daily commuting on the road with the incessant gridlocks and damages to their vehicles occasioned by the pathetic state of the road.
Hon Valentine Owamagbe Asuen, the APC Edo South Senatorial Candidate on Tuesday, who defied the weather with a horde of his supporters and admirers made a stop over at Sapele Road to join the peaceful protest adding his voice in solidarity to the vociferation of the protesters.
Hon Valentine Asuen while speaking to Newsmen lamented the state of the Federal Road which have degeneratively become impassable despite serving as a Gateway to/from our Sister States in the South South. He berated the Federal Ministry of Works, Federal Road Maintenance Agency, FERMA and by extension, the Edo State Government for abandoning the Road and despicable act of paying deaf ears to the plight and cries of tax paying Commuters and Residents
He bemoan the unrecoverable Man hours lost in gridlocks due to the state of the road and the adverse effect it has on Large and Small scale Businesses within the State and beyond. He therefore called for an Urgent response towards the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Road. He also called on the Senator representing Edo South Senatorial district at the Senate to quit been unaware of his role as a people’s representative and be alive to his constitutional duties of ventilating the plight and needs of the people at the floor of the hallowed Chambers.
It could be recalled also that the ongoing protest that has led to the total blockage and shutdown of the road is a repeat of an earlier one some months ago that saw the Edo State Governor making yet to be fulfilled promises and since then, the Road has gone from bad to worse.
It’s the hope of the protesters that this will serve as a reminder to the Government of the day and the relevant Federal Agencies to swing into action as they have vowed to continue the protest until Government at both levels adhered to their demands.
