Edo: Scores Counted In Aye Vs Maphite Cult War
Three persons were allegedly gunned down in the early hours of Thursday in a renewed wave of violence between rival cult groups in Benin City, the Edo state capital.
Residents were said to have woken up to see the gory remains of the three victims at the popular Anigboro and Uselu Motor Park neighbourhood of Uselu in suburban Benin.
The lifeless body of one of the victims who was simply identified as Osasere, a ticketer at the popular Uselu Motor Park and a regular face at the nearby Good Samaritan Road where he reportedly live, was seen at the spot where he fell after receiving the assassin’s bullets.

According to an eye eyewitness who pleaded anonymity, Osasere was pursued by the reported killer cultists shortly after he resumed duty at the park in the early hours of Thursday and killed when he tried escaping the siege laid by the assailants who were said to have an axe to grind with his elder brother.
The assailants who were said to have come for his elder brother, an alleged member of one of the deadly groups, however overpowered him.
Reports also had it that the renewed hostility is between members of the Black Axe otherwise known as Aiye and Malphite Confraternity.
The source disclosed that the new round of killings started when a member of the Black Axe Confraternity allegedly killed a Malphite member, an action which led to the reprisal killing of three members of the rival gang.
The Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Chidi Nwanbuzor confirmed the killing, assuring that security measures are being put in place to checkmate the deadly incident.
Nwanbuzor, a superintendent of police said that no culprit has been arrested by the police so far.
The Edo Police command’s spokesman advised the people to continue to go about their lawful businesses as the police is determined to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
