A fire incident disrupted activities at a section of the National Assembly complex housing the Nigerian Senate on Wednesday after flames broke out in Hearing Room 107.

According to Ireporter Online, the incident occurred shortly after the Senate Committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) concluded the screening of Dr. Zainab Marwa, the nominee representing the North-East on the commission’s board.

Preliminary findings indicate that the fire originated from the kitchen area attached to the hearing room and was quickly brought under control before it could spread to other sections of the building.

Senators Asuquo Ekpenyong and Salihu Mustapha reportedly joined efforts to extinguish the flames, helping to prevent what could have escalated into a major emergency.

Initial reports suggest the incident may have been caused by a microwave that was left switched on in the kitchen compartment.

No injuries or fatalities were recorded, and normal legislative activities resumed shortly after the fire was contained.

Following the incident, committee officials were said to have instructed journalists present at the scene to delete photographs and video recordings captured during the outbreak.
