Celebrities Can’t Save Nigeria Alone” – Peter Okoye Hits Back
Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has stated that celebrities cannot be solely responsible for addressing Nigeria’s numerous challenges, insisting that lasting change can only be achieved through the collective efforts of all citizens. Speaking during an interview with a Lagos-based radio station, the singer addressed growing expectations for entertainers and other public figures to speak out on issues such as insecurity, poor governance, and the economic hardships affecting millions of Nigerians.
According to reports, the former P-Square member acknowledged the frustrations many Nigerians face and emphasized that celebrities are equally impacted by the country’s struggles. Reflecting on his previous remarks about stepping away from discussions on national issues, Mr P admitted that his stance deserved reconsideration.
He explained that while some public figures may have access to personal security and certain privileges, the majority of Nigerians do not enjoy such protections. He stressed that the responsibility of transforming the country belongs to everyone and should not be placed solely on the shoulders of entertainers.
Mr P further observed that whenever national issues arise, many citizens direct their expectations and frustrations toward celebrities, urging them to lead campaigns or protests. He apologized for previously suggesting he would no longer concern himself with Nigeria’s problems, noting that despite any personal security arrangements he may have, the country’s challenges affect everyone.
The singer maintained that the current administration has failed Nigerians but urged citizens to channel their energy into collective action rather than relying on celebrities to drive change. He concluded that meaningful progress would only be possible if all Nigerians worked together toward a common goal.
