Former Nigerian Senator Is Dead (PHOTO)

Senator Inatimi Rufus-Spiff, who represented Bayelsa East in the National Assembly from 2003 to 2007, has died.

According to a statement issued by his brother and the paramount ruler of Cameroun-Ama, Twon Brass, in the Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Beinmo Rufus-Spiff, the former senator died on Saturday, December 24, 2022, in an Abuja hospital.

He passed away at the age of 68.

It stated that the family would announce the burial arrangements later.

Under Governor Rufus Ada George, the late Rufus-Spiff served as Secretary to the Government of the old Rivers State.

Prior to joining the Senate, he was the Commissioner for Education in Bayelsa State during the administration of the state’s first civilian governor, late Diepreye Alamieyeseigha.

He was also the chairman of the Bayelsa State College of Health Technology’s Governing Council in Otuogidi.

The late politician was also the chairman of Bayelsa State’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Reconciliation Committee.

He was also a member of the state PDP Presidential Campaign Advisory Council for the 2023 general election, which was inaugurated on November 30, 2022 by Governor Douye Diri.

At the event, which was his last known public appearance in Bayelsa, the late Rufus-Spiff spoke eloquently about the PDP’s bright prospects in the upcoming elections and urged unity and oneness within the party.

Blesson Akpuluma, a member of the PCAC and former Deputy National Organising Secretary of the PDP, described the senator’s death as sad and shocking.

“His death is a sad and rude shock to those of us who know him; a gentleman per se and very unassuming,” he said. “May God grant him eternal rest.”
