Shettima Represents Tinubu At Major ECOWAS Summit In Sierra Leone

Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Freetown, Sierra Leone, where he will represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 69th Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

According to Ireporter Online, the high-level summit is being held at the Julius Maada Bio International Conference Centre in Freetown and is expected to bring together West African leaders, government officials, ministers, business stakeholders, and representatives of regional organisations.

A statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President, Stanley Nkwocha, disclosed that Shettima will participate in discussions focused on issues affecting the region and shaping ECOWAS’ future direction.

The summit is expected to address major policy matters, including peace and security, democratic governance, economic development, regional integration, trade, infrastructure, and sustainable growth across member states.

The statement noted that leaders at the meeting would review ongoing regional initiatives and consider strategic decisions aimed at strengthening cooperation among ECOWAS countries.

The gathering forms part of ECOWAS’ mid-year statutory meetings, which provide an opportunity for member states to assess progress on regional programmes and develop responses to emerging political, economic, and security challenges.

Vice President Shettima is expected to return to Abuja after completing his official engagements in Sierra Leone.
