2026 Race Heats Up: Ogunbiyi Vows to Unite APC and Transform Osun

A leading governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, has expressed confidence that his candidacy would serve as a unifying force within the party ahead of the 2026 gubernatorial election. Speaking in Osogbo shortly after a strategic meeting with APC local government chairmen across the state, Ogunbiyi stated that his track record and entrepreneurial background make him well-positioned to reposition Osun’s economy if elected governor.

According to iReporter Online, the aspirant noted that the party leaders from all 30 Local Government Areas received him warmly, citing familiarity with his reputation and his previous political pursuits. He emphasized that this would be his third attempt at the Osun governorship, reiterating his deep connection with the party and the state.

Dr. Ogunbiyi, who joined the APC three years ago, believes his presence has positively contributed to the party’s internal development. He projected that if granted the APC ticket, the party would stand a strong chance of reclaiming the state in the 2026 polls.

Describing himself as a unifying figure among all aspirants, he stated that, if chosen as the party’s flagbearer, other contenders would rally behind him in a show of unity and commitment to progressive ideals. However, when asked about the possibility of not securing the ticket, Ogunbiyi maintained that he would bear no grudges. He insisted that his motivation remains a genuine desire to serve and transform Osun, rather than political gain.

The governorship hopeful further expressed a vision to move Osun beyond a civil service-dominated economy. He argued that despite the absence of crude oil, Osun is blessed with natural resources such as gold and fertile land that could be leveraged for agriculture and industrialization. He pledged to draw from a development master plan created through his involvement in the Osun Development Association to drive prosperity across the state.

Describing himself as a public servant driven by purpose, not desperation, Ogunbiyi restated his belief in politics without bitterness or violence, pledging to remain loyal to the APC cause regardless of the outcome of the primaries.
