The Akwa Ibom State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner CP Waheed Ayilara, revealed this development during a press briefing in Uyo on Friday, March 15, 2024, where Francis was paraded alongside other suspects involved in various criminal activities.

According to CP Ayilara, Francis, a resident of Nung Oku Village in Ibesikpo Asutan LGA, colluded with her boyfriend and three accomplices to stage her kidnapping, intending to extract money from her aunt overseas.

The police received a report from Francis’s aunt, Enobong Sampson, on March 11, 2024, claiming that her sister had been abducted and that the kidnappers were demanding a hefty ransom of N4 million.

In response, the Anti-kidnapping squad of the Akwa Ibom Police Command initiated a rigorous and intelligence-driven operation to locate the perpetrators and rescue the purported victim.

On March 12, 2024, Francis and her boyfriend, identified as Beltus Ebong, were apprehended at a hideout in Mbierebe Obio, Ibesikpo Asutan LGA. During interrogation, Francis confessed to colluding with Ebong and three others to fabricate her kidnapping with the aim of extorting money from her aunt abroad.

CP Ayilara emphasized the commitment of law enforcement to combatting crime and bringing perpetrators to justice, warning against such deceitful and criminal acts that undermine public trust and safety.
