Alleged Sexual Harassment: UNICAL Professor Reacts After Students Protest

UNICAL

Prof. Cyril Ndifon, the Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Calabar, has denied allegations of sexual harassment made against him by some female students from the faculty.

Following a protest led by Benedict Otu, President of the Law Students Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN), in which students demanded Ndifon’s dismissal over the allegations, the dean spoke out in an interview with the online platform Cross River Watch.

Ndifon refuted the accusations, asserting that the protest was orchestrated by faculty members who were determined to undermine his position.

He mentioned that his electoral victories as the Dean had triggered opposition and obstacles.

He expressed suspicion about the protest, pointing out that the placards displayed during the demonstration appeared to have been written by a single individual.

He also questioned how the protesters were aware of a meeting he was having with the Vice Chancellor if not for insider information.

Ndifon clarified that the planned meeting with the Vice Chancellor was meant to address significant concerns within the faculty, but it was interrupted by the protest demanding his removal.

He criticized Benedict Otu, the LAWSAN President, alleging that Otu misled fellow students into protesting by falsely claiming that they were going to meet the Vice Chancellor.

Ndifon also emphasized that he does not teach Year two or Year one students, which raised questions about why these allegations were targeting him. He questioned the absence of alleged victims of sexual harassment coming forward, suggesting that such serious accusations would naturally prompt individuals to raise alarms.

In conclusion, Ndifon vehemently denied the allegations, characterizing them as false claims concocted to tarnish his reputation, which he had worked decades to build.
