AMVCA 2026 Voting Officially Closes Ahead Of May 9 Ceremony

According to Ireporter Online, organisers of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) have officially closed voting for the 12th edition of the prestigious event, with winners scheduled to be unveiled on May 9.

Africa Magic confirmed the conclusion of the voting process in a statement released on Sunday, expressing appreciation to viewers for their participation across various audience-voted categories. The organisers noted that fans had actively supported their favourite nominees throughout the voting period.

“Voting has officially closed. The #AMVCA12 votes are in! Huge thank you to everyone who took the time to support their favourites – you made your voices count. Now the real wait begins… May 9th can’t come fast enough! Who’s taking home the wins?” the statement read.

The award ceremony will be broadcast live across Africa Magic channels, with the red carpet event set to begin at 4:00 p.m. WAT, followed by the main show at 7:00 p.m. WAT.

This year’s edition features 32 award categories, including 18 jury-decided awards, 11 viewer-voted categories, and three special recognition honours such as the Lifetime Achievement and Trailblazer awards. Veteran actress Joke Silva serves as Head Judge, succeeding Femi Odugbemi.

Organisers also introduced two new categories aimed at expanding continental representation: Best Indigenous Language Film (North Africa) and Best Indigenous Language Film (Central Africa), further broadening the awards’ reach across the continent.

The nominee list includes prominent figures such as Lateef Adedimeji, Scarlet Gomez, Funke Akindele, Bimbo Akintola, and Uzor Arukwe.
