An Open Letter To APC Governors On The Need To Elect Saliu Mustapha As The Next Party Chairman

Dear APC Governors,

My name is Osigwe Omo-Ikirodah from Edo State, I am a passionate follower of the APC right from inception. I am a journalist and social critic. I enjoy writing articles on leadership and its impact on society.

I am not writing today to complain about any activities involving your Excellencies, neither am I writing to complain about the style of governance by any of your Excellencies.

I am writing today on behalf of millions of other Nigerians who are concerned about the forthcoming National Convention of your great party, the All Progressives Congress, and the future of our political parties in Nigeria.

It is a known fact that Your Excellencies have a great influence on who emerges as the next party chairman of the biggest political party in Africa.

As you all make this great decision on who leads your party it is imperative Your Excellencies take into consideration the role the party system plays in an elective and representative system of governance.

The party as an institution is a  vital means through which government can be made answerable to the needs of the electorates and the general masses.

Political parties play a decisive role in making laws for a country, they activate and mobilize citizens into participating in political decisions and transforming their opinions into viable policy options.

Only the right leadership of a ruling party can guarantee the government of the day meets the huge expectations of the citizens especially in this period of great uncertainties coupled with the global setback caused by the Covid-19 outbreak.

The point I am trying to make is this: a seasoned core party man who is distinguished should be leading the most significant political party in Africa.

We strongly believe that Mallam Saliu Mustapha is the right choice for the party’s leadership because of the strong ethics and values he has brought to the party over time.

Saliu Mustapha is a core party man that has used every single opportunity he has to relate with the general public or the press to promote the APC.

He has shown countless times his loyalty to the APC, his contribution both financially and intellectually to the party has helped in restoring confidence in the party by millions of Nigerians.

Saliu Mustapha has a track record of exemplary leadership, as the Deputy National Chairman of the CPC he won the admiration and respect of all both within the CPC and other legacy parties that today make up the APC.

Aside from Saliu Mustapha standing as a bridge between the young and elders of the party, he also fits the criteria of bridging the gap between the core politicians and the technocratic bloc within the party.

His appeal to the youths, women, elders and members of the party is a result of his tireless efforts in seeing the APC remains the choice party of the electorates.

Saliu Mustapha would act as a unifying factor and surely bring an end to needless party confrontations and conflicts that usually arises out of Clout Chasing and Ego Tripping.

His emergence would be a paradigm shift that would go a long way in shaping our political parties and their future.

I and millions of Nigerians are asking Your Excellencies to please reach out to the delegates under your watch to consider making Mallam Saliu Mustapha their choice candidate.
