APC Gains Four Lawmakers As They Exit PDP And Labour Party

According to political analysts, four members of the House of Representatives have formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). The lawmakers cited internal crises in their former parties as the reason for the move.

The legislators who switched allegiance include Inuwa Garuba, representing Yamaltu/Deba federal constituency in Gombe State; Abdullahi El-Rasheed, representing Dakku/Nafada federal constituency in Gombe; and Mohammed Audu of Karim Lamido/Lau/Ardo-Kola federal constituency, all leaving the PDP. Additionally, Obika Chinedu, representing Abuja Municipal/Bwari federal constituency in the Federal Capital Territory, defected from the Labour Party to the APC.

In a separate development, Adewale Adebayo, representing Irepodun/Olorunda/Osogbo/Orolu federal constituency in Osun State, formally joined Accord from the PDP. Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, read the defection notices during Wednesday’s plenary session.

Meanwhile, Rivers West Senator Ipalibo Banigo announced her defection from the PDP to the APC on Tuesday, March 10, during plenary at the Senate. Banigo stated that her decision was informed by her desire to align politically with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the administration of President Bola Tinubu. She added that her move followed extensive consultations with her constituents and political associates and was aimed at supporting efforts to advance development in Rivers State.
