APC: North-Central Pushes for National Chairman Slot After Ganduje’s Exit

The North-Central Forum of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on President Bola Tinubu and party stakeholders to let the region produce the next National Chairman of the APC in the interest of fairness, equity, and justice.

Their appeal follows the resignation of Alhaji Abdullahi Ganduje as the party’s National Chairman on Friday.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday, Chairman of the Forum and member of the APC 2023 campaign council, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, argued that returning the leadership position to the North-Central aligns with the party’s zoning principles.

He reminded stakeholders that the Forum had long insisted the North-Central should complete the tenure begun by former Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu. Although they paused their agitation when Ganduje was confirmed by the NEC, they said this was done in the party’s overall interest, noting that Ganduje’s leadership stabilized the APC and attracted high-profile defections, including governors and lawmakers.

Zazzaga stressed that with Ganduje’s exit, the party now has a “golden opportunity” to correct what he described as past injustice against the North-Central.

He also pointed out the region’s significant contributions to the APC’s success: it delivered the third highest number of votes to Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election and currently boasts the highest number of APC governors, controlling five of six states in the zone.

Calling on Tinubu to direct Acting National Chairman Ali Bukar Dalori to convene a NEC meeting to elect a substantive chairman from the North-Central, the Forum emphasized that the zone is not just demanding the slot as a right but also because it has credible leaders capable of leading the party to victory in 2027.
