APC Reverses Course, Announces Inconclusive Edo Gubernatorial Primary

The decision came amidst controversy surrounding the poll, which resulted in the emergence of three different candidates for the September 21 gubernatorial election.

Governor Hope Uzodinma, Chairman of the Electoral Committee for the primary, announced Dennis Idahosa as the winner, while returning officer Stanley Ugboaja declared Monday Okpebholo as the victor.

Additionally, Ojo Babatunde, claiming to represent returning officers from all local governments, declared Anamero Dekeri as the winner.

In light of the confusion surrounding the polls, the party’s leadership convened on Tuesday at the APC national secretariat in Abuja.

Addressing journalists following the meeting, National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka announced that the election was inconclusive, stating that the process would resume on Thursday.

“I am here to brief you on the outcome of the emergency meeting of the National Working Committee of our party held today concerning the Edo State governorship primary election,” Morka stated.

“At the emergency meeting held today, Tuesday, February 20, 2024, to review the report on the Edo governorship primary election, the National Working Committee of our party deliberated and resolved that the governorship primary election has not concluded and has scheduled Thursday, February 22, for the continuation of the APC Edo State primary election process.”
