APC Spokesperson Reveals Action Plan If ADC, PDP Boycott 2027 Polls

According to Ireporter Online, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has affirmed its commitment to participate in the 2027 general elections, regardless of threats by opposition parties to boycott the polls over perceived bias by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, made the statement on Sunday during an appearance on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television. He was responding to calls from some opposition figures urging political parties to withdraw from the elections in protest against what they described as an uneven playing field.

Morka emphasized that multiple political parties in Nigeria remain active and capable of fielding candidates for the next presidential election. “The ADC is not the only political party in Nigeria. The PDP is still a political party. The Labour Party is there. And there are about 16, 17, or 18 other parties that are still registered in this country that I bet will field presidential candidates in the next election,” he said.

Addressing reports that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and other opposition parties were considering a boycott, Morka said, “Just today, I was reading a report by Sunday Punch suggesting that some members of the ADC and maybe some other parties are considering boycotting the next election. I wish them luck.”

He dismissed suggestions that the ruling party would step aside if opposition parties withdrew, asserting that the APC would exercise its constitutional right to participate in the democratic process. “I can’t give an assurance that the APC will somehow roll back its preparation and efforts by not fielding a candidate. We will participate as vigorously as we are required in a democracy,” he said.

Morka argued that the focus should be on whether opposition parties are adequately prepared to compete. He also criticised opposition parties, particularly the ADC, accusing them of attempting to manipulate the political process emotionally and calling for them to take responsibility for internal challenges.

Meanwhile, opposition parties have intensified discussions around a possible boycott of the 2027 elections, citing alleged bias by INEC and fears of a predetermined outcome. A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Taminu Turaki, along with Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress (AAC), has publicly raised the option. The ADC’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, confirmed that the party is considering the possibility.

Ini Ememobong, spokesman for the Turaki-led PDP faction, stated that a boycott might become necessary if the electoral process is compromised. The debate has further escalated following INEC’s decision to derecognise the National Working Committee of the ADC led by Senator David Mark.
