Arise TV Presidential Town Hall: Obi, Atiku Or Kwankwaso? – Presidential Candidate Refuses To Pledge To Use Nigeria’s Public Health System
Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, refused to pledge to use Nigeria’s public health system if elected president.
“The facility that will cater to my health…I will not,” said Atiku who was Nigeria’s Number 2 between 1999 and 2007. “We have limitations, you know.”
Atiku spoke at the Arise TV Presidential Town Hall, alongside Labour Party’s Peter Obi and New Nigeria People Party’s Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Candidates were asked to commit to publicly disclosing their health status and to use the country’s public health system.
Mr Kwankwaso responded positively to both questions. Mr Obi agreed, adding that he used public facilities he built as governor of Anambra.
In Atiku’s case, he stated that he would reveal his health status.
“Yes, I have,” he said, indicating he has his health status report and would disclose it.
Following two reminders, he attempted to evade the question by repeatedly saying “I have.”
However, the insistence of the host forced him to speak, and he refused to commit to using the country’s public health system as president.
Earlier in the discussions, Atiku proposed private-sector investment to improve the country’s healthcare standards.
