According to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, officers responded to an alert at 9:30 p.m. about armed bandits ambushing the vehicles, which were traveling on the highway. The vehicles, which included a Toyota Avensis, a DAF truck, and two other trucks, were attacked by kidnappers wielding AK-47 rifles in an effort to abduct the passengers.

Police officers from Kafur and Malumfashi responded to the situation and tracked the bandits to Fanisau village, where they engaged in another firefight, recovering all the stolen cattle.
