Big Disgrace As Liverpool Crumble At Brighton

Liverpool were defeated 0-3 by Brighton at the American Express Stadium in a Premier League match on Saturday.

Their chances of finishing in the top four after a difficult season took a major hit as Brighton swept to victory on the south coast.

Brighton deservedly took the lead in the 47th minute after dominating the first half but failing to score.

Alexis Mac Allister found Kaoru Mitoma, whose cross was perfectly weighted for the unmarked Solly March to tap in after Joel Matip carelessly surrendered possession.

Liverpool were in disarray when March smashed a fine finish into the far corner from just inside the area six minutes later.

Danny Welbeck sealed the victory by flicking a pass from March over Joe Gomez and volleying home.

Liverpool are in eighth place, seven points behind the top four, after being defeated at Brentford in their previous league game. They look a shadow of the team that nearly won the quadruple last season.

Everton, Liverpool’s Merseyside rivals, are in even worse shape following Southampton’s 2-1 victory at Goodison Park.

Because of a “real and credible threat to their safety,” Everton’s board of directors did not attend the game.

Denise Barrett-Baxendale, Everton’s chief executive, was reportedly assaulted by a fan and her car was attacked following last week’s 4-1 home defeat by Brighton.

Everton have won just one of their last 13 games in all competitions, and banners and flags calling for the board to resign were unfurled before the game.

Southampton fell behind in the 39th minute when Demarai Gray’s corner was headed home by Amadou Onana.

But, less than two minutes into the second half, Southampton equalized when James Ward-Prowse collected Che Adams’ knock-down on the edge of the area and drilled home.

Ward-Prowse inflicted more pain on Jordan Pickford in the 78th minute with one of his trademark free kicks.

Southampton remains at the bottom of the table, but they are now only one goal behind second-bottom Everton.

West Ham now occupy the final spot in the bottom three following a 1-0 defeat at Wolves, which saw the hosts move above the hapless Hammers.

West Ham have now gone seven league games without a win, thanks to a goal from Daniel Podence in the 48th minute.

Brennan Johnson scored twice as Nottingham Forest defeated Leicester 2-0 at the City Ground.
